Enovix Corporation (NASDAQ:ENVX) reported on January 13 that an independent laboratory has confirmed its AI-1 smartphone battery achieved a volumetric energy density of 935 Wh/L. The company stated this performance exceeds a leading commercial silicon-doped competitor by approximately 100 Wh/L.
Polaris Battery Labs, an independent battery testing firm, conducted the trial. Tests were performed under identical conditions, equipment, and procedures. Results showed the AI-1 battery outperformed the leading smartphone battery by 12%.
Management noted the company's patented architecture employs 100% active silicon anodes. This design utilizes silicon's superior energy storage capabilities while managing expansion in scalable formats.
Dr. Raj Talluri, CEO of Enovix Corporation, described the achievement as a significant improvement. He indicated that AI-2 and AI-3 batteries are anticipated to reach the market later in the decade.
