Global equity funds recorded their largest weekly net purchase in 15 weeks through January 14, with investors pouring money into world stocks as they approached record levels. The momentum from last year continued, despite ongoing concerns about the global economy and geopolitics.
Data from LSEG Lipper shows a net investment of $45.59 billion into global equity funds during the week. This is the biggest inflow since the week ending October 1, which saw $49.13 billion.
The MSCI World index, which surged 20.6% last year, set new records this week and has gained about 2.4% so far this year. A U.S. Labor Department report on Tuesday indicated a moderate increase in core CPI for December, reinforcing expectations that the Federal Reserve might reduce interest rates later in the year.
U.S. equity funds received $28.18 billion, marking the largest weekly inflow in two and a half months and leading regional investments. European equity funds saw $10.22 billion in net purchases, while Asian equity funds attracted $3.89 billion.
Technology, industrial, and metals and mining sectors were particularly favored. These sectors experienced weekly inflows of $2.69 billion, $2.61 billion, and $1.88 billion, respectively.
Global bond funds witnessed a $19.03 billion weekly net investment, similar to the previous week's $19.12 billion inflow. Short-term bond funds and euro-denominated bond funds drew net inflows of $2.23 billion and $2 billion, respectively. Loan participation funds and high-yield bond funds each had a net $1 billion in inflows.
Money market funds experienced a net outflow of $67.15 billion for the week, as investors partially redeemed a combined $250 billion net investment from the prior two weeks.
Gold and precious metals commodity funds saw a net inflow of $1.81 billion, with investors making their ninth weekly net purchase in 10 weeks.
Emerging market assets were popular, with equity funds receiving $5.73 billion, the largest weekly amount since October 2024. Bond funds added a net $2.09 billion, according to data covering 28,701 funds.
