Meta Signs Nuclear Energy Deals to Power AI Supercluster

Meta Platforms Inc. has entered into nuclear energy agreements with Vistra, TerraPower, and Oklo, as reported by CNBC on January 9. The deals aim to provide clean energy for the company's Prometheus supercluster, a key component in its pursuit of superintelligence development.

Prometheus represents one of Meta's advanced artificial intelligence initiatives, operating across multiple data center facilities. These agreements are projected to support 6.6 gigawatts of new and existing clean energy capacity by 2035. The arrangement with TerraPower is expected to lead to the construction of two new Natrium units, which would generate approximately 690 megawatts.

Additionally, Meta will purchase more than 2.1 gigawatts of energy from Vistra's nuclear plants located in Ohio. The agreement with Oklo is set to develop 1.2 gigawatts of power specifically to support Meta's data center operations.

On January 12, BofA Securities reaffirmed its Buy rating for Meta Platforms and set a price target of $810, following confirmation of the nuclear energy deals. The research firm anticipates that these agreements will help alleviate power availability limitations as the company expands its data center footprint. They also noted that Meta is likely to achieve greater certainty in both capacity and pricing for its growing AI infrastructure.
