Omaha Mother Details Financial Control in Relationship on Radio Show

Allison, a stay-at-home mother living in Omaha, contacted The Ramsey Show to discuss what she described as "a little marching band of red flags" in her relationship, which she said involves financial and power imbalances.

Speaking to co-hosts John Delony and Jade Warshaw, Allison explained that she relocated from Nashville to Omaha to live with her boyfriend of four years, who is the father of her child.

Allison reported that her partner has a net worth of $4 million, while she has $600,000 and a home in Nashville. She previously owned a successful business in Nashville but closed it to move for him.

She said they had discussed marriage, but those conversations stopped after she became pregnant.

In Omaha, Allison is caring for their child and assisting with his family business, which she stated is valued at up to $20 million. She receives no salary and has no access to joint accounts. Her partner declines to share his income details.

Her only financial resource is a credit card provided by her partner for purchases for herself and their child. She quoted him as believing "a credit card should be security enough" and that she should be content with this arrangement.

"The most perplexing thing to me is why aren’t you running for the hills," Delony asked her directly during the show.

Delony and Warshaw observed that Allison should have left the relationship earlier. "Behavior is a language," Delony commented. "This man has said, ‘I do not want you a part of my life unless it’s an unpaid employee who does whatever I want.’"

Warshaw inquired if her partner had ever mentioned a prenuptial agreement. Allison said no. The hosts indicated that this absence was a clear sign he never intended to marry her, despite their cohabitation and shared parenting.

"A guy like this, he would be planning to protect his assets upon marriage, right?" Warshaw said. She added that not discussing a prenup suggested he was not planning to marry at all.

Allison expressed mixed emotions about calling the show, stating, "I’m so mad and so happy I called."
