SCOR Joins Global Reinsurance Group for New AI and Data Center Insurance Facility

French reinsurance firm SCOR has joined a group of over ten reinsurers supporting a new global insurance facility for artificial intelligence and data center infrastructure.

The scheme was created by Advanced Technology Assurance, which operates as a managing general underwriter specializing in insurance for advanced technology sectors internationally. It combines various conventional and specialist insurance classes into a single multi-line policy designed for large-scale AI and data center projects.

Under the facility, SCOR will serve as the lead insurer for the environmental impairment liability component, covering pollution and environmental damage exposures associated with AI and data center sites. The company will also act as a follow insurer across cyber and technology, marine cargo, and war and terrorism sections.

Emma Bartolo, SCOR's global EIL segment leader for business solutions, stated, "We are delighted to be part of this groundbreaking facility, which takes a holistic approach to covering the AI infrastructure market, and to use our EIL expertise to drive and protect responsible innovation."

According to SCOR, the structure aims to address potential gaps that can arise when complex projects rely on multiple stand-alone policies. The company cited a McKinsey & Company forecast indicating that more than $7 trillion will be invested in the sector by 2030.

ATA commenced underwriting in October 2023 with backing from Convex Group, which provided cornerstone investment and underwriting capacity. It writes business on behalf of a panel of global reinsurers and distributes through retail and wholesale brokers worldwide.

The facility is intended to offer a unified insurance framework for the growing AI and data center infrastructure market, bringing multiple risk categories together under one consolidated policy.

In a separate development last April, SCOR named Philipp Rüede as CEO of its life & health division, effective June 1, 2025. He succeeded Frieder Knüpling, who stepped down in July 2024 and also became a member of the executive committee.
