Wyndham Hotels & Resorts has opened its first managed hotel in South Korea, the Wyndham Goseong Gangwon, a 529-room property near Seoraksan National Park. The hotel is located close to Bongpo Beach and is designed to serve leisure tourists, families, and groups for meetings, incentives, conferences, and exhibitions.
Ben Schumacher, regional vice-president for APAC operations at Wyndham Hotels & Resorts, stated, "South Korea's booming tourism market presents a compelling opportunity for Wyndham, which is why we're focused on strategic expansion and strengthening our presence through high-calibre additions like Wyndham Goseong, Gangwon." He added, "With global scale, an industry-leading loyalty platform, and deep local expertise, Wyndham has a proven record of helping owners not only drive performance, but generate long-term value while delivering exceptional guest experiences."
The company has also finalized agreements for two new development projects. Howard Johnson by Wyndham Seoul is projected to start operations in 2028, and Wyndham Busan is expected to open in 2030.
This expansion occurs as South Korea's tourism sector sees a resurgence, supported by strong domestic travel and increasing international arrivals. Over the past two years, Wyndham has introduced new brands and operational strategies in the country, including the launch of Wyndham Grand in 2023 and the upcoming Trademark Collection by Wyndham in 2024.
Wyndham's existing portfolio in South Korea comprises 30 hotels and over 9,200 rooms across brands such as Days Inn, Howard Johnson, Ramada Hotel & Suites, Trademark Collection, and Wyndham Grand. In the Asia-Pacific region, Wyndham introduced its Baymont brand in November 2025 with a new hotel in Kunming, China, marking the first Baymont establishment outside the Americas.
